The Hellraiser franchise manages to endure its direct-to-video legacy as Dimension prepares for the release of the latest sequel, Hellraiser: Judgment. The Child’s Play franchise turns 30 this year. While we just had a new Chucky installment released at the tail-end of 2017 in Cult of Chucky, it looks like things still aren’t over for Charles Lee Ray. The newest installment in the long-running Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, Leatherface, finally saw a release late last year. The film premiered on DirecTV On Demand and eventually saw a Blu-ray and DVD release in the month of December. Only a few days have passed since we got our first look at the upcoming sixth film in the Tremors franchise, titled Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell. As you can likely assume from the title, the movie changes from the franchise’s usual desert locale and moves Burt Gummer and his son played by Jamie Kennedy into the arctic. The beauty of the slasher genre is that the iconic killers can always return for another outing. This seems to be the case with Victor Crowley, the well-known villain of the Hatchet franchise which returns for its fourth installment tomorrow. It’s become expected for giant movie trailers to come out during the Super Bowl 52 showing, and today Universal decided to unleash an all-new spot for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. What once seemed like a dead franchise is now flooded with a sense of rejuvenation. John Carpenter helped create Halloween and the character of Michael Myers way back in 1978, resulting in the first major slasher movie as we know them today. Unfortunately, his lack of desire to produce a sequel left us with half-inspired attempts as Carpenter stepped further away from the franchise.
