Let’s face it, since Funny People back in 2009, Adam Sandler has been in a severe funk. Aside from the critically-overlooked Men, Women, and Children, the last eight years has mostly seen Sandler mucking it up in comedies the vary from just ok to terrible. Who better to re-energize Sandler’s career than the master of dysfunctional family dramas in Noah Baumbach? Sandler is dipping his toes again into dramatic (or in this case semi-dramatic) material with The Meyerowitz Stories. The film follows an estranged family that has a web of complications between them. When they all reunite in New York to celebrate the artistic work…

Featuring two Oscar-caliber actors, one would think The Mountain Between Us would be a serious awards player. Instead, its a melodramatic story of survival, one that has some merit despite its insincere core. The Mountain Between Us follows two strangers who must travel together for important business. When their plane crashes stranding them on a mountain, they must fight to survive the dreary conditions. Idris Elba and Kate Winslet are two bonafide stars, and its fun to see the two sharing the screen in a different kind of role. Both actors are strong as usual, developing a good chemistry as they fend for…
Between its Oscar-nominated lead actors and a biographical tale that is still relevant to today’s society, Battle of the Sexes could have been one of the year’s best films. Sadly, its a biopic that doesn’t pack a lot of bite, ultimately spreading itself thin among its several areas of interest. Based on a true story, Battle of the Sexes follows woman’s tennis star Billie Jean King, whose outspoken attitude towards gender equality in society leads her to create her own tennis association. King is soon challenged by tennis hall of fame Bobby Riggs to a match, with Riggs looking to get back in the…
Robert Redford and Jane Fonda are two of Hollywood’s most treasured veteran actors, so the premise of the two sharing the screen together is dynamite on paper. Based on Kent Haruf’s novel, Our Souls At Night is a well-intentioned and competently-crafted flick that doesn’t dig deep enough with its interesting subject matter. The film follows Addie and Louis, two widowers who have been spending the last few years on their own. When Addie offers to have Louis sleepover to get through the night, the two begin to form a strong bond. Performance-wise, its hard to top a duo of Redford and Fonda.…
From Donnie Darko to Nightcrawler, there are few actors as accomplished as Jake Gyllenhaal. Having a penchant for complex characters and overall good movies (his IMDB list is about as perfect you can get for an actor), Gyllenhaal has established himself as one of Hollywood’s most underappreciated talents. With Stronger, Gyllenhaal is undertaking his most challenging role yet. The film is about the real-life story of Jeff Bauman, an ordinary Bostonian who loses his legs during the Boston Marathon Bombing. Much of the film takes place in the Bombing’s aftermath, as Jeff tries to start his new life with the…
In the race to find the movie remake that no one was asking for, Flatliners (2017) is the definitive winner. Despite featuring a talented young cast and an interesting premise, its a fairly middling horror film lacking much of a pulse. Flatliners (2017) follows five medical students who embark on a daring experiment in which they stop their hearts to experience death for a short minute. While this proves to be a thrilling experience, it proves to have a dangerous downfall. I was surprised in seeing the trailer just how many talented actors were involved with this remake, as it gave me some…
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far was Ant-Man. Despite a lot of controversy behind the scenes, the 2015 crime caper turned out to be one of Marvel’s most entertaining and unique films yet. Looking to follow-up that film’s success is Ant-Man and The Wasp, which is currently filming. With filming taking place, fans are already getting a fair share of leaks about the film hitting the web. Today, fans get to see not only a glimpse of Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp, but also Ant-Man’s new antagonist Ghost. https://twitter.com/NoticiasGeekTV/status/912736755190845441?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fcomicbook.com%2Fmarvel%2F2017%2F09%2F27%2Fant-man-and-the-wasp-ghost%2F Perhaps the biggest issue with the original Ant-Man was the lack of a strong…
One of the largest omissions from Tim Burton’s duel Batman films is the lack of Robin. Batman’s acrobatic sidekick has been as synonymous with the brand as another side character, often acting not only as Batman’s sidekick, but also the son that the dark knights never had. Despite being rumored to appear in Burton’s second film Batman Returns Bart Sears, the character never made the cut. Thankfully, he has come to the rescue, giving clamoring fans a look into what Robin could have been with these concept designs. https://twitter.com/BartSears/status/908480325814296576 While these sketches are certainly rough, its neat to get an inside look into…
Kingsman: The Secret Service was one of the biggest critical and financial hits of 2015, but to my surprise I kind of hated it. Tonally the film never really found a distinct voice and the last 40 minutes of this film were so oft-putting and mean-spirited that it was miserable to sit through. For this reason, my expectations were deathly-low going into the anticipated sequel The Golden Circle. The Golden Circle follows Eggsy, whose continuing his maturation process as both a spy and man. When the Kingsman headquarters is destroyed, he is forced to travel stateside to join forces with the spy organization…
Much hype had been made over the past few months leading up to The Defenders. With the show essentially being the Netflix version of The Avengers, many who binge watched every season of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist were excited to see each of the heroes team up. While the show was met with generally positive reviews (currently has a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes), some were ultimately disappointed by the show’s slow pace. Now there is more disappointing news about The Defenders, as marketing-analysis firm Jumpshot confirmed that the debut season was the lowest rated Marvel Netflix show yet within its first month. To dive deeper into…
