Growing up a film and television fan in the wonderful state of Massachusetts, he grew a strong attachment to personal dramas. Teaming up his fandom for the world of entertainment along with his love of writing was just an all too natural fit for Matt. He can be often found at the local cineplex, eating at the local restaurants or playing basketball at any basketball court across Mass.

One of the biggest running stories of the year is the potential purchasing of 20th Century Fox by Disney, which would be yet another major acquisition for the company. Though there has been progress made throughout the year, a deal this substantial has its obvious complications that drag out the process. It appears that all those arduous hours working on the deal are about to pay off. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Mayer, who has been involved with the deal since day one, discussed that the merger is nearly complete: “The deal closing keeps me up at…

The Jim Henson Company name may not have the same weight that it does today, but there are still many who cherish the company’s era of great content. From the always-lovable The Muppets to the glorious David Bowie cult-classic The Labyrinth, there have been a plethora of fantastic puppet projects, but sadly not many recently (sorry The Happy Time Murders). Perhaps a big first step towards relevance with be with The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance series currently in production with Netflix, which is based on the 1982 film. Netflix announced today the voice cast for the show, which will feature Taron Egerton (Rian), Anya Taylor-Joy (Brea), and…

Opening in a crowded December marketplace, Mortal Engines seemed to be at risk of suffering a weak opening weekend. Leading into this weekend, distributor Universal did little to market the film’s unique premise, with many confused on what exactly this YA adaptation was and who the audience for the film was. All of this confusion, along with a lackluster 28% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, led to a disastrous opening weekend for this potential franchise. Mortal Engines opened to a paltry $7.5 million dollars in its opening weekend, which adds up to roughly a fifth of what Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opened to this weekend. Considering…

“All you need is an angle.”  Some films are content sticking to the status quo of filmmaking in order to create a solid product. Some filmmakers though verve into decidedly uncharted territory, shooting for the stars as they try to create something decidedly original. Whether you love it or hate it, Vox Lux is one of those films, with its combination of filmmaking styles and themes presenting a wholly unique look at stardom. Vox Lux follows Celeste, a thirteen year old who turns her experience from a traumatic event into a rising career as a pop star. The film follows her through the…

Despite poor reviews and a lot of bad press, Venom was one of the biggest success stories of the year, grossing over 850 million worldwide and counting. Tom Hardy’s bold and surprisingly comedic performance was where a lot of the appeal comes from, as he creates a version of Eddie Brock/Venom that is based in offbeat comedy. Thanks to its massive success financially, Sony’s planned Venom sequels are happening, with Tom Hardy still contractually obligated to appear in two more films. Venom co-writer Jeff Pinker has yet to be brought back for work on the sequels, but he did confirm one is coming: “I can’t say…

While there have been some doubts going into the film, I have been excited for Aquaman ever since its announcement. The comic book character may be one of the more antiquated, but the combination of Conjuring director James Wan and Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa has a lot of promise on paper. So far, early reception surrounding the film has been quite promising, another encouraging sign about the DC superhero flick. Aquaman is James Wan’s first foray into the superhero genre, but that doesn’t mean he can’t bring some of his horror roots with him. According to Cinema Blend, the Conjuring series iconic Annabelle doll makes an appearance in…

While most video game films have absolutely no merit, I do have to give the Resident Evil series some credit. Sure, the story in each was weak in both its connection to the game and actual plotting, but the series did produce six film that have some fun moments along the way. That’s not to say that they couldn’t be improved, especially with the presence of Paul WS Anderson behind the camera often hindering the series. Despite the last Resident Evil film Resident Evil: The Final Chapter being released only a year ago, talks have already started about rebooting the series. According to Variety, it appears…

Even in a Hollywood’s current day cycle of constant remakes, its surprising to see Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle hit Netflix less than two years after the Disney’s Jungle Book. To director Andy Serkis’ credit however, production for his film started beforehand, and his film also takes a much darker approach to the timeless tale. While I appreciate the ambition, its more of a mixed bag than a successful final product. Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle follows Mowgli (Rohan Chand), as we see him go from orphan to a member of a tight-knit wolf pack. He must face off against the evil tiger Shere Khan…

American Horror Story has achieved only what The Twilight Zone could before it, make a long-lasting horror anthology series work on television. While the show isn’t always the most consistent in terms of quality from season to season, the show has garnered a devout fan-base that continues to support it from day one. It appears that fans will have something else to e excited about. Along with the recent announcement that the show will continue for at least a ninth and tenth season, show-runner Ryan Murphy revealed via an Entertainment Tonight interview that the series’ iconic witch coven could possibly return: Surprise, b*tch!…

The Shining is one of the most iconic films of all time thanks to a haunting performance from Jack Nicholson and the always stellar direction of Stanley Kubrick. For this reason, the idea of a sequel seemed like lunacy to many die-hard fans of the original and its source material, but a sequel is on its way with Doctor Sleep.  Based on the recent Stephen King novel, Doctor Sleep is a sequel that follows Danny Tolerance as an adult dealing with psychic powers. While there is still little known about this sequel and its eventual 2020 release, director Mike Flanagan recently revealed on Facebook…
