Growing up a film and television fan in the wonderful state of Massachusetts, he grew a strong attachment to personal dramas. Teaming up his fandom for the world of entertainment along with his love of writing was just an all too natural fit for Matt. He can be often found at the local cineplex, eating at the local restaurants or playing basketball at any basketball court across Mass.

Rarely before has a major Sundance film been readily available for the public as its appearing at the festival. With the advent of streaming platforms like Netflix though, audiences can watch Nightcrawler helmer Dan Gilroy’s latest Velvet Buzzsaw as its making waves in Utah. Similar to Gilroy’s last film Roman J. Israel Esq., Velvet Buzzsaw is an innovative and often entertaining film that can’t quiet live up to its lofty ideas. Velvet Buzzsaw is set in the upper-class world of high-art, including the likes of a pretentious critic (Jake Gyllenhaal), money-seeking art dealers (Rene Russo, Toni Collet, and Zawe Ashton), and the artists themselves (John Malkovich and…

One of the most interesting upcoming horror projects is Doctor Sleep, which is the long-await sequel to Stanley Kubrick classic The Shining. With The Haunting of Hill House director Mike Flanagan running the ship alongside stars Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jacob Tremblay, there is a lot of potential for this sequel to be a worth addition to the original’s legacy. While the project was originally scheduled to hit theaters in January 2020, Warner Brothers delivered some exciting news in announcing that Doctor Sleep will be in fact moving forward to a November 8, 2019 release date. DOCTOR SLEEP will be released wide in theaters this…

It’s always surprising when a movie that had little fanfare or presence in the cinematic landscape gets a sequel. That is the case with The Boy, which is now getting a sequel after the film’s solid, yet unspectacular box office run (35 million domestically on a 10 million dollar budget). Making the decision to make The Boy 2 even more puzzling though is just how poorly received the film was, as it holds a mere 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. Where there’s a profit, there’s opportunity for more to executives though, as they’ve announced via press release that The Boy 2 has officially begun filming.…

Netflix has already made several sizable moves this year, with one of their biggest being centered around infamous serial killer Ted Bundy. The streaming platform has already dropped the documentary series The Ted Bundy Tapes this month, while Voltage has recently just released the trailer for the upcoming film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile  staring Zac Efron. Both have put Bundy and his crimes back in the spotlight, which has had some respected downsides. Similar to the several Bird Box social media movements, both the Bundy projects have stirred up significant conversation. A lot of that conversation has been focused on Bundy’s seemingly attractive personal…

While they are largely known as a hip indie distributor, A24 has made quite a presence in the horror genre since their inception. Films like The Witch and It Comes At Night have displayed their excellent taste; but the studio finally experienced both critical and financial success with last year’s Hereditary. A24 is looking to follow-up that success with their latest horror effort The Hole in the Ground. Hole in the Ground, while it does not have an official release date, is set to hit theaters and DirectTV sometime in 2019 (A24 has a long-running deal where they release some of their films their first).  Check out…

The Universal Monster Universe was perhaps the biggest example of a cinematic universe failing to connect with audiences. Even with the presence of Tom Cruise, The Mummy was a sizable box office and critical dud, with it appearing that the universe was over before it even started. Since that films failure, very little news has been made about the Monster Universe, until today, as The Invisible Man has finally found a director. That director is Leigh Whannell, who made waves with the underrated science fiction film Upgrade last year. With this announcement, Universal is turning a new page with its Monster Universe. Instead of focusing on big-budget…

January is a particularly desperate time at cineplexes, as aside from Glass and Escape Room, most movies are either leftovers from last year or flat out misfires. While the latest Matthew McConaughey thriller Serenity may fall into the latter category, it does so with one of the most brazenly bizarre experiences you will have in some time watching a movie. Serenity follows Baker Dill (McConaughey), a fishing boat captive driven by his obsession to catch a unique fish. His quiet life is rattled when his ex Karen (Anne Hathaway) returns in his life, offering him ten million dollars to kill her abusive husband Frank (Jason Clarke). That is…

The action genre, while certainly not in the prime of its popularity, has seen a revival of late. Much of that can be credited to John Wick, with the film’s hyper-violent and stylish aesthetic being the main source of inspiration for action films today. One of those many copycat films is Polar, a Netflix actioner that boast more gratuitous style than actual entertainment value. Based on a graphic novel of the same name, Polar follows Duncan Vizla (Mads Mikkelsen), one of the world’s top assassins who is beginning to transition into retirement. Before he can receive his extensive retirement funds though, he must fend off a…
