Growing up a film and television fan in the wonderful state of Massachusetts, he grew a strong attachment to personal dramas. Teaming up his fandom for the world of entertainment along with his love of writing was just an all too natural fit for Matt. He can be often found at the local cineplex, eating at the local restaurants or playing basketball at any basketball court across Mass.

The Curse of La Llorona opened this weekend to decidedly mixed results. While critics despised the film, it ended up having a healthy box office opening, passing expectations to earn 26.5 million in the top spot. That being said, fans of the Conjuring Universe were disappointed to see this film’s minimal connection to the franchise it’s based on. In an interview with Gamespot, director Michael Chaves revealed that a deleted scene towards the end of the film makes a direct connection to The Conjuring Universe. Spoiler warning for his upcoming comments: “There was a lot of discussion about it. There is actually a scene…

It’s fair to say that Will Smith, despite his endless charm and talent, is at a bit of a career crossroads. Films like After Earth and Collateral Beauty have featured Smith in some woeful material and generally bad movies, with Smith not having a legitimate critical and financial success since MIB 3 (and even that underwhelmed). Smith is looking to get back on his A-game though, with upcoming projects like Aladdin and Bad Boys 3 having their fair share of potential. Perhaps his most intriguing upcoming project is Gemini Man, from Life of Pi director Ang Lee. Featuring Will Smith taking another deep dive into science fiction, Gemini Man features the star actor going toe-to-toe…

The Conjuring Universe has spawned several successful horror entries that have connected with both critics and audiences alike, leaving many optimistic for their latest spinoff The Curse of La Llorona. Despite boasting an intriguing premise, the film sadly represents a new low for the Conjuring brand, failing to provide substance or scares to the proceedings. When she sets them free, she triggers a supernatural force that begins to follow her family. Off the…

Making a noteworthy impression with 2015’s atmosphere-driven and creepy It Follows, director David Robert Mitchell proved he has the makings of one of the next great directors. Thanks to several delays and an unceremonious release, Mitchell’s follow-up Under the Silver Lake has mostly gone under the radar, but it deserves a spotlight for its wildly ambitious home run swings. Under the Silver Lake follows Sam (Andrew Garfield), a slacker who wanders through his days looking for some sort of purpose. He suddenly stumbles upon one when a recently befriended neighbor Sam (Riley Keough) goes missing, leaving him on a chase to find the truth.…

One of the MCU’s unsung heroes is Scarlett Johansson, who has done a fairly good job humanizing Black Widow despite the character never being the star of her own film. While that long-awaited Black Widow film is finally in development, it’s coming over a decade after Johansson first appeared in the MCU in Iron Man 2.  That’s kind of ridiculous, but Marvel has begun to turn a new leaf with more female-centered films like Captain Marvel the upcoming The Eternals. In an interview with Digital Spy, Johansson commented on the changes from the MCU’s origin. “Oh yeah, it’s a huge relief for me because, you…
