Blumhouse has achieved unprecedented success in the horror genre, creating a system of low-budget projects that excite creatively and rake in profits at the box office. Their name is typically a signifier of quality, but a few bad apples have snuck through the cracks during their tenure. The latest Blumhouse project Fantasy Island, a remake of a cheesy 1970’s show, might just be the worst film the famed studio has put their name on. Repackaging the show’s premise into a horror mold, Fantasy Island follows a group of strangers who receive a vacation getaway to a mysterious island, controlled by Mr. Roarke (Michael…

While we have seen many iterations of Spider-Man on the big screen, many of these films failed to tap into his rogue’s gallery of villains. Moreso than any other Marvel character, Spider-Man has a multitude of intriguing supporting players, with staples like Black Cat, Kraven the Hunter, and Spider-Woman have not seen any involvement in live-action films. Well, it appears that may be changing for the latter Spider-Woman, who is reportedly getting her own solo project. Going alongside yesterday’s news break of an untitled Sony/Marvel project releasing October 2021, with fan blog MCU Cosmic reporting a Spider-Woman project is currently…
Remakes are a common occurrence in contemporary Hollywood, and while some celebrate seeing old properties come back to life, others dread the notion of retreading familiar ground. This can be especially frustrating when studios “Americanize” an international project, which is the case with the latest Will Ferrell and Julia-Louis Dreyfus vehicle Downhill. In an effort to update 2014’s critical darling Force Majeure, Downhill captures some of its predecessor’s dark nuances while also falling short of its high standards. Downhill follows Billie (Dreyfus) and Pete (Ferrell), two parents stuck in the doldrums of family life that decide to spice things up with a trip to…
In his action-packed heyday, few action stars shined brighter than Sylvester Stallone. As the star of the Rambo and Rocky franchises, Stallone has had a remarkable career that has been equally impressive in its durability, with the 73-year-old still delivering as an action star in vehicles like The Expendables and Escape Plan. This year, Stallone is returning to the superhero genre (starred in the original Judge Dredd) in Samaritan, which is set to release December 11, 2020. With filming currently underway, photos from the Samaritan set are being leaked from TMZ showing Sylvester Stallone in action. Stallone also reached out to his Instagram audience to give an update on filming, relaying his…
Taika Waititi has risen from indie darling to superstar over the past few years, breaking out with Thor: Ragnarok before winning an Oscar this year for Jojo Rabbit. The writer/director is a uniquely talented mind who brings a fresh perspective and quirky sensibility to every project he’s involved in, making him a fan favorite for many Marvel fans for his writing/directing effort and scene-stealing role as the humorous Korg. Fresh off his Oscar win, Waititi is currently gearing up for production on Thor: Love and Thunder. After the Academy Awards ceremony ended Sunday, Variety caught up with the writer/director to discuss several topics, including…
Disney’s trend of live-action remakes has been mixed to say the least. While most of these films have been financially prosperous (Dumbo being the lone exception), most of these projects have also been creatively bankrupt, shamelessly cashing in on the appeal of the original without bringing anything new to the table. One of the few remakes that showed sparks of life was last year’s Aladdin, with star Will Smith filling in admirably as the Genie with a charmingly boisterous performance. After that film’s successful run (passed the billion-dollar mark worldwide), it appears than an Aladdin 2 is on its way. According to The…
Rick Moranis was one of the premier comedic stars of the 1980s/1990s, with supporting roles in Ghostbusters and Spaceballs standing the test of time. He also starred in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, which became a mini-franchise in the ’90s leading to its own Disney World attraction. Due to an illness in his family, Moranis semi-retired in the ’90s, making seldom appearances here and there while taking care of his family (a voice-over role in 2003’s Brother Bear was his most notable experience). After a long duration away from the big screen, it seems that Rick Moranis is coming back to a franchise he once jumpstarted. Confirmed in…
Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker was controversial for several reasons. The final entry in the Skywalker saga excited some with its conclusion, but many found the film lacking with its obvious attempts at fan service and messy screenplay. What irked fans even more was how obvious Rise tried distancing itself from its previous entry The Last Jedi, including moving star Kelly Marie Tran to the backburner with a minimal role that accounted for less than ten minutes of screen time. After staying silent on the issue since its release, Kelly Marie Tran spoke to MTV News about her role in Rise of Skywalker and how she’s…
Oscar night had quite a few memorable moments, from Eminem’s bizarre performance to Parasite upsetting 1917 for Best Picture, but perhaps the most notable for comic book fans was Joaquin Pheonix’s Best Actor win. Pheonix became the second comic book star to win an acting award, joining Dark Knight star Heath Ledger with distinct versions of Joker that will be immortalized throughout time.Along with a heartfelt speech that referenced Pheonix’s deceased brother River Phoenix, Phoenix drew a startling metaphor about human greed in the abuse of cows for the dairy industry. Well, it looks like the National Milk Producers Federation took issue with Joaquin’s…
2017’s Wonder Woman was a significant success for DC, being one of the first female-driven superhero ventures to break the bank at the box office (821 million worldwide), while also pointing DC in a more character-focused direction with their properties. That venture’s success has left many fans excited for Wonder Woman: 1984, which picks up a few decades after the last film. While there’s only been a few trailers and pictures released from the film’s production, Warner Brothers released a big tease today. That tease is the first image of Cheetah (played by Kristen Wiig), who will be the main antagonist of…
