I'm a guy who watches too many movies.

Looks like we won’t be seeing a repeat of that infamous 2007 writer’s strike anytime soon. A strike from the Writer’s Guild of America was avoided yesterday thanks to an eleventh hour deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The deal includes a 15% increase in Pay TV residuals and well as parental leave. You can read the WGA’s full statement here. “May 2, 2017 Dear Colleagues– Your Negotiating Committee is pleased to report that we have reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP that we can recommend for ratification. In it, we made gains in minimums across the…

There’s no denying that Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the most celebrated actions movies of the past decade. Critics and general audience members went nuts for that movie back in 2015 and it went on to earn ten Oscars nominations and gross almost four hundred million worldwide. The strange thing about Fury Road’s success is that there has been very little discussion of a sequel. Sure, we’ll hear a new bit of news here and there about Mad Max: The Wasteland, but Warner Bros doesn’t seem to be in much of a hurry to bring Max and Furiosa back to the big screen.…

The World War Z franchise just got a major personnel upgrade. After flirting with the idea for months, cinematic legend David Fincher is close to signing on to direct a sequel to World War Z. The Seven, Fight Club, Zodiac, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Social Network, Gone Girl director (so many great films!) will be directing his first franchise film since 1992’s Alien 3.  This begs the question of why he is close to choosing to do this. After all, Fincher has been on a nonstop streak of gloomy adult thrillers for a while. A sequel to an action zombie blockbuster just doesn’t seem to be his…

I hope you’re not tired of these live action Disney remakes because it looks like they’re here to stay. The Wrap reports that Jon Favereau’s upcoming Lion King Remake (seriously Disney… it hasn’t been that long) has found its Timon and Pumbaa. Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will lend their voice talents to the film as the meerkat and warthog due. The have joined a cast that already includes hold-over James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa and newcomer Donald Glover as Simba. You may recall that Eichner and Rogen already collaborated in last year’s Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. If you suppressed the memories of that terrible film though, I understand. Both men have voiced their…

Sad news for anyone hoping that Christian Bale would join Ben Affleck,  Ryan Reynolds, Chris Evans, and Josh Brolin in the ranks of actors who have taken on multiple comic book movie roles. In a Collider interview, the former Dark Knight mentioned that he has no interest in acting in another comic book movie saying: “No, I’m not interested in doing that. I’ve never seen — I’m trying to think if that’s correct, I think I’m actually correct, I can’t remember a single superhero film that I’ve ever watched. Apart from the ones I made and like, the Christopher Reeve…

The Xenomorph is getting a new pal to help kill idiot space explorers next month. Empire Magazine released three new exclusive images from Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi epic Alien: Covenant including our first look at the Xenomorph’s smaller, paler cousin The Neomorph. Something tells me that despite its smaller size, this guy will not be any less vicious. After you finish emptying your barf bucket, let’s discuss the next image. Now that’s a pretty shot. It’s almost enough to give me hope that the tacky, green-screen-heavy, wet cement look of the trailer is not reflective of the visual style of the…

In one of the sadder pieces of news we’ve covered here on ScreenGeek.net, a video of the late Toronto mayor Rob Ford smoking crack has surfaced. The video depicts Ford (an admitted crack addict) smoking the drug while talking about Justin Trudeau and how he doesn’t care for him. The video appears to have been filmed without Ford’s knowledge. Ford died at age 46 last March from cancer. You can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qs0hRtqh548 What do you think of this? Tell us below!

ScreenGeek.net’s favorite wild man Nicolas Cage is back in the first trailer for Paul Schrader’s Dog Eat Dog and I am pleased to say that it looks pretty good! With the exception of films like Joe and The Trust, Cage has had a difficult time picking projects lately as most of work this decade has been pretty lousy. From what I can tell, Dog Eat Dog might be the film to end that losing streak. It has a lot of things going for it. Cage is always a big plus even in awful movies, fellow over-actor Willem Dafoe is also a welcome presence (if you haven’t seen them together in…

Reviewing Bad Moms is a difficult task due to the fact that its ambitions as a film are unclear throughout. I would compare it to that one college student you know who has changed his major enough times to still be nowhere near graduation despite all of his friends being long gone. It’s indecisive and because it’s indecisive, it’s pretty useless and unfunny. Mila Kunis plays Amy Mitchell, a stressed out mother of two who decides one day to stop trying to be a perfect mom. With her two friends and fellow moms Carla (played by Kathryn Hahn in a…

Those animated movies have finally been dethroned as Star Trek: Beyond has taken the number one spot this weekend with $59.6 million. The Justin Lin directed installment in the 50 year old franchise had a sizable drop from the debuts of the 2009 reboot ($75 million) and Into Darkness ($70 million) but I wouldn’t get too panicked yet if you’re hoping for another sequel. There’s still international dollars to be earned and it’s not underperforming nearly as bad as The Final Frontier or Nemesis ($52 million and $43 million for their grand totals). Star Trek will survive like it always does. In third place, the low budget horror flick Lights…
