Director John Carpenter is known for his masterful mixing of horror, action, sci-fi, and comedy. He best displayed this unique amalgamation in 1986’s brilliant “Big Trouble in Little China,” a genre-defying classic that has no equal to this day. However, a close second would be another Carpenter film, “They Live.” Kickass fight scenes, quippy one-liners, genuinely terrifying creatures, and aliens unlike any you’ve seen before, all come together to form a truly unique cinematic experience. Initially intended to be yet another team-up between Carpenter and muse Kurt Russell (following Escape From New York, The Thing, and the aforementioned Big Trouble),…

We all knew Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 would be a smash hit, based on the huge success of the first installment. However, when the original began production in 2013, it was quite a gamble. The Guardians were pretty low on the totem pole of well-known Marvel heroes; not to mention the fact that several members of the cast weren’t exactly superstars themselves. Zoe Saldana was pretty famous; as were Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel (although their roles were motion captured and their faces were never on screen). However, for the main character, Star-Lord, and the most menacing of…
Would you like to see Hulk Hogan return to the WWE? At the moment, this is only a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. But, according to SportsKeeda, it’s close to happening. As evidence, they present the fact that Hogan’s personal store in Orlando is suddenly selling WWE merch, when the two entities have ignored each other’s existence for the last few years. You’ll recall the one-two punch of scandals that plagued the former star, when a leaked sex tape (shudder) was followed by a recording of a racist rant going public. It had the potential to…
Earlier this week, we learned that actor Josh Brolin has officially been cast in the much-sought-after role of Cable in Deadpool 2. Some of us were stoked; some of us were disappointed; but generally, most of us were just surprised. He’s already currently portraying the villainous Thanos in the MCU. Ghostbusters warned us to “never cross the streams,” but apparently, Hollywood wasn’t listening. To be fair, it’s a different film universe, although they’re both Marvel characters. So, while it’s unexpected, it isn’t really a conflict of interest. However, for some of us, the announcement was a sizable disappointment. I am…
WWE fans were treated to a bit of a throwback on Monday night. Brutal backstage beatdowns were a staple of the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression eras, but they’re rarely seen on the current PG product. But during and interview with Michael Cole, Roman Reigns was attacked by a rampaging, roaring, slobbering beast. No, it wasn’t a rhinoceros; it was Braun Strowman. He tossed Reigns around like a rag doll for several minutes, despite the efforts of backstage personnel to separate the two. Finally, EMTs managed to secure the seemingly unconscious Reigns to a gurney, and were headed for an ambulance…
Poor Finn Balor. The night after becoming WWE’s first Universal Champion, he had to vacate the title due to a shoulder injury. The following six months were spent recovering from surgery, fighting to get back in the ring. That return finally happened. But now, less than two weeks later, Balor has been sidelined again, this time with a concussion. The injury occurred during a match with Jinder Mahal, with Mahal delivering a stiff forearm to Balor’s face. He immediately went boneless, collapsing on the mat. However, he somehow got back to his feet, continuing – and winning – the match.…
If you though the WWE Universe’s hatred of Roman Reigns was ridiculous before, you’ll be amazed at just how much worse it could get. After Reigns defeated The Undertaker Sunday at WrestleMania (in what appears to be the Deadman’s swan song match, no less), we all knew the salt was going to be at Dead Sea levels on Monday night. But even I didn’t expect quite as much vitriol as we heard from the Orlando crowd. Chants ranged from the requisite “you suck” and “go away,” to instant new buzzword “delete” (thanks, Hardys), to the more hateful “asshole,” “pussy,” and…
After the success of last year’s “Jungle Book” remake, Disney and director Jon Favreau now have their sights set on “The Lion King” as their next CGI-meets-live-action offering. (Cinderella, Maleficent, and Beauty and the Beast have also been successfully converted; and The Little Mermaid, Mulan, and Aladdin are among the cartoon classics still headed back to the big screen.) Having already cast James Earl Jones as Mufasa and Donald Glover as Simba, their next target is none other than singer Beyonce as Nala, Simba’s eventual queen. Per the report from Variety: “Insiders stress that the Grammy winner has not made…
The DCEU has been hurting for the perception of having a great director behind one of its movies. (While some of us love Zack Snyder, his work has largely been regarded as boring and overblown.) Enter the last person we expected: MCU architect Joss Whedon. He’s been announced as the man behind the camera for the upcoming Batgirl film. In addition to directing, he’s also writing and producing. Per the report from Variety: “Whedon is nearing a deal to write, direct, and produce an untitled Batgirl pic for Warner Bros. as part of its DC Extended Universe. No other producers are…
If you grew up in the 80s, chances are, you hate clowns. Many other people do as well, but most 80s kids can trace their fear of painted faces back to a single source: Pennywise, the terrifying villain of Stephen King’s IT. Portrayed with gleeful menace by the legendary Tim Curry, Pennywise scarred an entire generation for life. So when word came down that we were getting an IT remake, everyone from Gen X-ers to millenials was understandably disappointed. Yet another crappy Hollywood rehash was on the way. Or not? Apparently, King himself has seen the film, and offered his…
