DC’s TV Universe has had its ups and downs. Arrow has been a solid hit for several seasons now. The Flash has been somewhat less beloved. Supergirl is very polarizing, with viewers either loving it or thinking it’s garbage. Where will their next entry fall on this spectrum? Only time will tell, but this sneak peek may help a bit.Premiering March 21 on the Syfy network, Krypton delves into the history of Superman. Going back two generations, we meet Kal-El’s grandfather and Jor-El’s father, Seyg-El. It will chronicle his quest to restore honor to the House of El, before the…

Disney, the parent company of such huge properties as Marvel and Star Wars, has released its film calendar for 2018. There are some epic movies on the way! First up is the highly anticipated Black Panther, due on February 26th. Reprising his scene-stealing role from Captain America: Civil War, Chadwick Boseman stars alongside Danai Gurira, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker. The film takes us to the mysterious kingdom of Wakanda, where ancient tribal customs are interwoven with unimaginable wealth and technological advancements. Having inherited the role of king from his father T’Chaka, young T’Challa has…
We’ve had solo films for most of our core Avengers – Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk (if you count the pre-MCU movies) all have multiple titles under their belts. Even newer members of the team, such as Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel, have been given the spotlight in their own respective projects. So what’s the deal with leaving out Hawkeye and Black Widow? As founding members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe team, their stories deserve to be told. The two of them helped bring the Avengers together. Along with Nick Fury, they were the backbone…
After what feels like an eternal wait, we *finally* get to return to a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters this weekend. (I don’t know about you, but I’ve been going absolutely bonkers since The Force Awakens ended on such a massive cliffhanger. What will Luke say? What will he do? Is he Rey’s father? What will be the repercussions of Han Solo’s death? Will General Leia go out in a blaze of glory?) SO. MANY. QUESTIONS. We’ll all get to find out soon enough what happens, and how we feel about it. However, one…
For a few months now, random tidbits of news have teased a new direction coming up for Hawkeye. The master archer is said to undergo major changes in Avengers 4, possibly leading him to abandon his identity entirely. Jeremy Renner, who portrays the character, has only fanned the flames of these rumors with his Instagram posts. Now he’s done it again, sharing this image on the social media site. https://www.instagram.com/p/BcnaI5hhlZq/ His caption read: “costume on point today…….what do you think?” … with a winking emoji. Well, Mr. Renner, I think you’re being sneaky. Knowing that fans are clamoring to see…
The X-Men: Dark Phoenix Saga is one of the most famous and beloved comic book arcs of all time. It’s been dabbled with a few times off the page: the animated series in the early 90s did a pretty good job with it (considering it was a kids’ show, they could only go so dark); X-Men: The Last Stand killed it with a flaming barbwire-wrapped 2×4; and the middling Apocalypse film hinted at it near the end. Hopefully, this will be the time they finally get it right. Fox’s followup to Apocalypse is titled Dark Phoenix, and looks to right…
File under “Yet another instance proving that studio suits needed to butt out and let Zack Snyder do his thing.” It has been revealed that “black suit” Superman scenes were filmed for Justice League, yet somehow ended up on the cutting room floor. The film’s cinematographer, Fabian Wagner, tells Inverse: “There were scenes shot. It’s a cool looking costume. Sadly, we didn’t see that in the final cut.” If you’re scratching your head, allow me to give you a brief recap. Superman was shockingly killed off from his own comic in 1992. He was murdered by the monstrous villain Doomsday,…
By now, you’ve surely heard that the DCEU’s Justice League has received a rather lukewarm response from fans. It’s a superhero team-up of DC’s finest – essentially their version of The Avengers. However, while Marvel’s heroes were given a stellar reception, DC hasn’t been quite so fortunate. Many believe that a large part of the problem is studio interference. Warner Bros. notoriously sticks their nose in where it isn’t needed, often drastically changing the outcome of their films (see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad). And somehow, the continued panning of said films hasn’t taught them to…
The last few years have been rough for Zack Snyder. After making several films that were critical and commercial successes, like 300, Watchmen, and Dawn of the Dead, his career took a nosedive when he hooked up with Warner Bros to helm the DCEU. First came Man of Steel, a grounded, somber look at Superman’s origins and struggles. Despite being very comic accurate (as his previous CBMs were as well), the film was poorly received by many filmgoers. Then there was Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which finally brought Batman and Superman together on the big screen. The film…
The DCEU’s Suicide Squad was a very divisive movie. Most either loved it or hated it, with few filmgoers sitting on the fence. For those who saw it in a negative light, one of its biggest flaws was the characterization of The Joker. Actor Jared Leto portrayed the legendary (if overrated and overused) DC Comics villain. He’s known for picking bizarre projects, and adopting strange behaviors while shooting as an acting method. However, the majority of what went wrong with Joker wasn’t really Leto’s fault. He was poorly written and terribly designed. Most of us could have possibly looked past…
