AMC’s upcoming series Interview with the Vampire is quickly coming together – especially now that one of the biggest roles has been cast. Indeed, it looks like actor Sam Reid will be playing the vampire Lestat in the highly-anticipated series based on the popular book. It also seems likely that he’ll be appearing as the character in other AMC projects as well.
As revealed via Variety:
“The casting could represent a long-term investment in Reid on AMC’s part. As the company has the rights to all of Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles” books and Lestat appears in multiple entries, Reid could find himself portraying the character across multiple series. At this time, however, “Interview With the Vampire” is only ‘Vampire Chronicles’ series that has been greenlit by AMC.”
This is especially exciting news, considering that past Vampire Chronicles adaptations never quite fulfilled their potential. While the film adaptation of Interview with the Vampire has been cited as a great example of vampire cinema over the years, the cast and crew never got an opportunity to tackle the other books in the Vampire Chronicles series. Similarly, the also stand-alone film Queen of the Damned attempted to adapt both books The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned – which didn’t quite do the series justice. As such, we’re left with one good adaptation, one iffy adaptation, and a slew of books that have yet to be touched at all.
So seeing that Sam Reid is now Lestat, and AMC now holds the rights to all of the Vampire Chronicles books, fans could finally have their chance to see the entire franchise properly adapted. Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see what gets announced next. As for now, it’ll be interesting to see Sam Reid take on the role of Lestat following Tom Cruise and Stuart Townsend. Hopefully we’ll have more details on the Interview with the Vampire series in the near future.
Although filming has yet to begin, the Interview with the Vampire series is expected to premiere on AMC sometime next year in 2022.
