With the recent news that Amazon is reviving The Tick (without the main star, however) this got us thinking.
Why not a DREDD series? The Tick wasn’t really a success at all ratings wise but developed a cult following over the years – sort of like Dredd. Netflix already has Marvel and there are rumors that HBO will be developing a Watchmen TV series – so this makes more sense than you might think. Dredd has an enormous cult following and has sold very well on home video (even though the format is dying) and was perceived very well by most who watched it. It even has a petition to BRING BACK DREDD with 148,000 signatures.
It’s also obvious with the enormous success of Deadpool, Marvel’s Daredevil and Jessica Jones that there is definitely an audience for adult oriented comic book characters.
Amazon is still new in terms of original content and Judge Dredd is part of a 2000AD Universe that could bring many different spin-offs and crossovers. The only thing I’d say is that if they do make a Dredd series, it has to have Karl Urban.
