It’s already been quite the wait for Sony’s upcoming Marvel film Morbius, which is set to introduce actor Jared Leto as the titular vampire character. One of the reasons that has made this wait so interesting, however, is that the first trailer actually included an appearance from Michael Keaton. What’s more, Michael Keaton appears to have been playing his character Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming. With such a major tie-in like that, fans are eager to know more about the film and how it will further connect with the MCU. Interestingly, however, the film’s director might’ve just confirmed another cameo for Morbius – one that links it with another Sony film.
As fans know, Sony also has an upcoming sequel to Venom on the way – titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Tom Hardy will once again be playing Eddie Brock aka Venom, and now it seems he might be making an appearance in Morbius. As potentially suggested by Daniel Espinosa while speaking with a MovieZine via MovieWeb, he had this to say regarding what it’s like to direct big stars:
“It usually feels strange before the day begins, when you look at the schedule and stand on the set yourself. When you walk around there, the recording looks just like a Swedish production, but then when you look at the schedule and read names like Michael Keaton, Jared Leto, Tom Hardy, then it feels cool and very exciting. But once you start working, it’s exactly the same thing. An actor wants a director and actors want to be directed.”
And there you have it. Daniel Espinosa freely let the name Tom Hardy slip out alongside Michael Keaton and Jared Leto. Of course, the director has worked with Hardy in the past – so he could have mentioned the actor for that reason alone. But considering Morbius is already making a massive attempt to tie-in with the MCU via its Vulture scene – it shouldn’t be surprising if it tied in with something much closer at Sony like Venom.
Daniel Espinosa directed Morbius from a screenplay written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama.
The highly anticipated film Morbius is currently scheduled for a January 21, 2022 release date early next year.
