It’s been a decade since the release of Attack the Block, and after years of waiting, fans can finally get excited that an official sequel has been announced. Indeed, it looks like original director Joe Cornish will be reuniting with star of the original film John Boyega for Attack the Block 2. Usually sequels could go either way after so many years, but it seems like they really want to make a proper direct continuation – and that’s a good sign for everyone who is a fan of the first movie.
As revealed in the official announcement via Deadline, actor John Boyega had the following to say:
“It’s been a decade since Attack the Block was released and so much has changed since then,” Boyega said. “I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour.”
Similarly, director Joe Cornish had this exciting statement to make about showing audiences more alien action:
“I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack the Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.”
Hopefully there will be more details for the film announced in the near future. It’s been a long wait for this news since the first film was released, but hopefully it won’t take any longer from this point forward for the new sequel to enter production. Especially now that it’s been formally announced. As such, stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any further future updates – including casting information and a potential release date.
Attack the Block 2 will be produced by the combined efforts of Studiocanal, Film4, Complete Fiction Pictures and UpperRoom Productions. Joe Cornish will both write and direct the sequel, and act as producer via UpperRoom Productions alongside star John Boyega. Nira Park and James Wilson will also produce via Complete Fiction.
