There are a wide variety of reasons to be excited for Showtime’s upcoming revival season of Dexter. After all, the new season will give fans the proper closure they’ve wanted ever since the show’s original finale was critically panned and negatively received. With this in mind, however, some fans may be curious just how connected this new season will be to the original show’s run. Especially considering the setting will no longer be Miami. Interestingly, it looks like the cast for the new Dexter revival will be going in a different direction as well. According to actor James Remar, who played Harry Morgan in the original eight seasons of the show, none of the other original cast members aside from Michael C. Hall will be returning.
As revealed via Instagram, James Remar explained that although he and other original cast members wanted to come back – Showtime simply did not contact them. He’s insisted that he doesn’t know what their plan for the revival is and that they seem to have no interest in getting any of the original cast aside from Michael C. Hall. Of course, it’s always possible that James Remar might be unaware of a secret cast member or two. This could allow Showtime to surprise audiences with a beloved character’s return. But that should be taken with a grain of salt, as for now, it looks like Michael C. Hall will be the only returning cast member from the original run of Dexter.
In the new Dexter revival…
“Set 10 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami.”
The cast stars actor Michael C. Hall who will once again play the titular Dexter. Also confirmed for the new season is Jamie Chung, Clancy Brown, Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah, and Jack Alcott.
Clyde Phillips will once again act as showrunner for the revival. While the exact release date for the new season is unknown, it’s currently expected to debut sometime in the fall of 2021.
