The title has been released for the upcoming sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre along with its new rating. As it turns out, the upcoming film will be titled Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and it will also be Rated R. This was revealed after the MPAA announced their new rating for the film.
As noted by Bloody-Disgusting, the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre was Rated R for the following:
“Strong bloody horror violence and gore, and language.”
It’s definitely the type of rating you’d expect from this genre of film, but nevertheless, it is a reassuring sign. Especially for fans that were hoping this installment would maintain the dark, gritty elements of its 1974 predecessor. And considering this will be a direct sequel, perhaps this is a good example at just how respectful of a sequel the filmmakers are aiming to make. With countless other films in the franchise that have been less than thrilling, this could be a true breath of fresh air.
The cast for the film includes Elsie Fisher (Castle Rock) alongside Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Mark Burnham (Wrong Cops), Moe Dunford (The Dig), Olwen Fouéré (Mandy), Alice Krige (“Star Trek”), Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner), Nell Hudson (Victoria), Jessica Allain (The Laundromat), Sam Douglas (Snatch), William Hope (Dark Shadows), and Jolyon Coy (War & Peace). Olwen Fouéré (Mandy) is Sally Hardesty and Mark Burnham (Lowlife) is Leatherface.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel was directed last year by David Blue Garcia, from a script written by Chris Thomas Devlin. The film was produced by Fede Alvarez with Bad Hombre’s Rodolfo Sayagues, alongside Kim Henkel (co-writer of the original 1974 The Texas Chain Saw Massacre), Ian Henkel and Pat Cassidy, who are producing via Exurbia Films.
Hopefully we’ll have new information on the film soon now that the rating has been released. As such, stay tuned for potential release date news and any further details.
