It’s been a little over a year since the video game Call of Duty: Warzone first launched. In that time, Infinity Ward took the initiative to ban a large number of players – namely cheaters – from being able to play the game. A number so large, in fact, that the developers have banned nearly one million players from Call of Duty: Warzone.
As revealed via Polygon, Infinity Ward banned a surprising 45,000 players just recently. This makes the grand total 475,000 players banned. And, according to Infinity Ward, the number will actually continue to grow. As stated:
“We recently banned 45,000 fraudulent, black market accounts used by repeat offenders,” Infinity Ward said. “Removing cheaters and taking away their ability to move to alternate accounts is a key focus for the security teams.”
Infinity Ward has been doing their best to make Call of Duty: Warzone a safe and fun environment for all of its players. This means that all of these cheaters, boosters, and other obnoxious players are being banned permanently for being repeat offenders. When the game first launched, more than 50 million players joined in during the first month. But these numbers dwindled after Infinity Ward banned over 70,000 accounts in said first month. These types of cheaters have made it difficult for normal players, particularly console users, from enjoying the game. While some have turned off cross-compatibility, it is a game that relies on such features – so it’s definitely a lot easier to get rid of these offenders.
Infinity Ward also explained a little more about their methods in banning these users:
“Some have asked if we issue hardware bans,” the developers wrote on Monday. “We do issue hardware bans against repeat, or serial, cheaters. This is an important part of our effort to combat repeat offenders.”
It definitely appears that repeat offenders are the ones being targeted most by Infinity Ward. As such, they gave the following statement:
“Again, there is no place for cheating,” the developers wrote. “Delivering a fair and fun experience for all players is our top priority.”
At this rate, it’s expected that the numbers for banned players on Call of Duty: Warzone will only continue to grow. Hopefully this will at least allow the normal players to finally enjoy the game.
