Social media has been buzzing after the release of the first Space Jam: A New Legacy trailer. Of course, this isn’t the first time in recent history that the upcoming live-action/animated movie was trending. In fact, many fans were upset when it was announced classic Looney Tunes character Pepe Le Pew was cut from the film. Many believed it was either “too woke” of a decision, or outright couldn’t stand seeing the animated skunk get left out. In any case, with the trailer released, Pepe Le Pew has once again become a topic of discussion.
In particular, fans are expressing how disappointed they are that Pepe Le Pew isn’t visible in the new trailer. Furthermore, fans are upset that the trailer contains references to characters like the gang members from A Clockwork Orange or the murderous child eating Pennywise from IT. Fans are considering these types of appearances to be hypocritical, and they just can’t understand why the animated skunk was let go. Here are some of the reactions that you can find on social media:

Pepe Le Pew isn't in Space Jam 2 bc of his persistent nature towards women in post episodes……… But they've included the DROOGS from Clockwork Orange where they rape and kill people
Make it make sense https://t.co/Kn6QXvU4sN

Yooooo. Space Jam pulled Pepe out of the movie. Yet they have the the Droogs characters from one of the most BRUTAL rape scenes in any movie I’ve seen …
Remember kids …. Cancel culture only works when it’s convenient for whatever side it’s working for

I love that Pepé le Pew can't be in Space Jam 2 but Alex and his Droogs from A Clockwork Orange are in it.

Yeah now seeing that Game of Thrones and Clockwork Orange characters are going to be in Space Jam 2, Pepé Le Pew’s absence no longer makes sense.

A Clockwork Orange being in Space Jam just goes to show you that WB actually has no morals so the removal of Pepe Le Pew only happened because that NYT dipshit got it trending for back-pats
If it got trending to add him back in I bet they’d do it, they don’t care

It’s definitely an interesting development to see such characters like the Droogs included in Space Jam: A New Legacy. Of course, no matter which way you’d go about doing it, there’s bound to be controversy to some degree. Let’s just hope the right decisions regarding the animated skunk were made and that Space Jam: A New Legacy will still wind up being an enjoyable movie just like the original.
In the upcoming film…
“When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court: a powered-up roster of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before. It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself. The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even “King” James by playing the game their own way.”
Malcom D. Lee directed Space Jam: A New Legacy. The film’s script was written by Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Keenan Coogler and Terence Nance.
The film stars LeBron James, along with the likes of Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Damian Lillard, Diana Taurasi, Chiney Ogwumike, and Nneka Ogwumike. Don Cheadle and Sonequa Martin-Green are also set to appear.
Space Jam: A New Legacy is currently scheduled to hit both theaters and HBO Max on July 16, 2021.
