When Finn Jones was announced as Danny Rand AKA Iron Fist last week, a large number of fans expressed their dissatisfaction that the character wasn’t going to be Marvel’s first Asian superhero. Luckily, it sounds like it won’t be long before this actually happens.
ScreenRant and ThatHashtagShow, who were also one of the first to report on Jones’ casting, have revealed that Marvel and Netflix are looking to use the upcoming Iron Fist show as a means of introducing Shang-Chi, Master of Kung-Fu before the character goes onto star in his own series, much in the same way that Luke Cage was introduced via Jessica Jones. They reveal that ‘Marvel is actively in the process of casting an Asian male actor for the role of Shang-Chi’
The site reveals that one of the reasons that Marvel are looking to introduce this character is to address the aforementioned diversity issue. If he were to receive a series, it would make him the first Asian superhero to appear in the MCU, not a bad achievement to have.
