Before the time of the internet and more so social media, spoilers for films were far harder to come by. Also, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still an unprecedented realm of cinema, with interwoven stories traversing over several films and series. Nowadays however, a spoiler is literally just a click away and instantaneous. Because of the ease of access to the world, Marvel Studios has deep and heavy security embargoes for their cast and crew when working on these projects. We learned just how tight the leash is recently with the latest Zoom interview from Doctor Strange 2 star Benedict Cumberbatch, who appeared. Sort of…

Cumberbatch is currently filming the sequel to his solo film for the MCU, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He is also doing press for an upcoming release he filmed called The Mauritanian. As he did a Zoom interview with The Concordia Forum, Benedict made the call from his Marvel trailer. But the actor was absent from the screen, the shot instead was just of the wall of his trailer and the actor mentions that this is because he is on set for the Sorcerer Supreme’s sequel and is under an embargo. This was most likely due to the star being in costume and between scenes.
Such tight restrictions from Marvel may seem over the top, but in a world where everything leaks, sometimes extreme measures are the only way to keep your film’s plot secret until release. Plus, when you have actors like Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo who are walking spoilers, tightening the reigns probably isn’t a bad thing.
While it is a shame that we don’t get to see Benedict Cumberbatch in all of his Doctor Strange glory just yet and that he has to do press for another film without showing his face, but this secrecy is for the integrity of the film and its story. So fans will just have to wait til someone sneaks some BTS pics of the movie to see Benedict in his full Sorcerer garb once again.
