It was previously announced that a live-action take on Cartoon Network’s hit series Powerpuff Girls would be going into development. The series is intended to premiere on The CW, which has similarly made dark and gritty live-action adaptations in the past. Riverdale is one particular such example. Now with Powerpuff Girls receiving the treatment, fans have been eager to know who will be playing the iconic trio. And now we have our answer! It looks like the main cast for the upcoming Powerpuff Girls series will include Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet, and Yana Perrault.
According to THR, the three actresses will be playing “disillusioned twentysomethings” for this new take of the young superheroes. Apparently the three girls “resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting.” It definitely sounds like the kind of dark and gritty take that The CW is known for.

Actress Dove Cameron will be playing Bubbles Utonium. According to the announcement,
“She’s initially more interested in recapturing her fame than saving the world, but she just might surprise us and herself.”
Next up is Chloe Bennet, who will be playing Blossom Utonium. Most fans remember her character for being one of the most perfect, over-achieving girls in the trio. But as it turns out, these traits didn’t carry over into adulthood:
“Blossom’s repressed kiddie-superhero trauma has left her feeling anxious and reclusive, and she aims to become a leader again — this time on her own terms.”
Finally, we have actress Yana Perrault. She’ll be playing Buttercup Utonium. According to the report:
“More sensitive than her tough exterior suggests, Buttercup has spent her adulthood trying to shed her Powerpuff Girl identity and live an anonymous life.”
It definitely sounds like The CW have succeeded in finding a more adult take that works for these classic cartoon characters. And with the live-action Powerpuff Girls cast announced, it’s only a matter of time before more details about this series are revealed. The series will be written by Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody. The two will also be executive producing the series alongside Berlanti and his Berlanti Productions banner partner Sarah Schechter and TV president David Madden. Maggie Kiley will also be executive producing and she will direct the pilot.
