Greetings folks from across the internet waves! Boy does it feel great to be a Marvel Comics or MCU fan. The Walt Disney Company Investor Day presentation occurred Thursday online and the House of Mouse has come to play. A lot of news dropped about what’s to expect from the Marvel family and one of them is that we are getting an Ironheart show for Disney Plus. What’s even better than that? Casting news!
If Beale Street Could Talk actor Dominique Throne will be playing Riri Williams/Ironheart. The much-beloved character made her debut in Marvel Comics back in 2015 and was created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato. The character has shown up in Marvel animation projects like Marvel Future Fight, Marvel Strike Force, and Marvel Avenger Academy just name a few.
This will be Ironheart’s first live-action appearance and fans of the character have been waiting for this moment to come. For those not in the know, here’s more info on Riri Willams.
At the time of her debut, Williams was a teen engineering genius. The death of her father caused her to move with her mother and aunt to Chicago. Later while attending MIT, she creates her own Iron Man-style suit and gets the attention of Tony Stark. He gives her the “go ahead” to be a new armored hero. The Iron Man mantle is passed to Williams when Tony dies.
With her mentor no longer around, Ironheart seeks the aid of her family, Pepper Potts, and a holographic version of Stark’s mind for guidance. She later joins the new Champions alongside Kamal Khan as Ms. Marvel and Miles Morales as Spider-Man. You just know there’s gonna’ be a crossover at some point in the future.
The timing is perfect since Robert Downey Jr. has stepped down from Iron Man and making way for a new set of superheroes. Welcome to the Marvel family, Dominique Throne.
