Robert Englund Reportedly Wanted For New ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’ Movie

It’s been nearly two decades since Robert Englund last appeared as Freddy Krueger on the big screen. The final appearance for his iconic character was in 2003, when Freddy vs Jason was released. In 2010, one other A Nightmare on Elm Street film was released. However, this outing was a remake – where actor Jackie Earle Haley played Freddy Krueger instead. Since then, it’s been another decade without any kind of A Nightmare on Elm Street film in theaters. This might soon change, however, and better yet – Robert Englund might finally return to play Freddy Krueger in another Elm Street movie.

According to a new rumor from insider Daniel Richtman, via Patreon:

“WB still wants Englund back, so if all works out, he will [return],” says the tipster.

With horror reboots like the 2018 film Halloween being rather popular as of late, it makes sense that Warner Bros would want the original Freddy Krueger himself back. After all, Robert Englund is the ultimate Freddy Krueger for most fans. Of course, his age could come as a problem – especially if Warner Bros were to want to turn this new film into a new series of sequels. So while it’s unclear what take could be used to make everything work out, there seems to be a chance that Robert Englund would be brought back for another Elm Street installment.

Then again, this is a rumor, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. What we do know, however, is that Hollywood really is eager to get another film off the ground. With a variety of filmmakers offering pitches and Wes Craven’s estate actively developing a new Elm Street project, we can only hope that some official news is just around the corner. So, stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any further updates on A Nightmare on Elm Street.
