The massive superhero blockbuster Aquaman has a sequel tentatively scheduled for a 2022 release date, and it looks like actress Amber Heard is still going to be a part of the project. This has many fans upset, specifically after the controversial resignation of Johnny Depp from his role in Warner Bros’ upcoming Fantastic Beasts 3. Similarly, Aquaman 2 is a Warner Bros project, yet Amber Heard is continuing as if it’s business like usual on her side of things. Considering the massive amount of legal drama that’s been going on between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, it’s surprising to see that she’s still moving forward with Aquaman 2. As such, fans have created petitions to see Amber Heard removed from the production of Aquaman 2 – and one petition actually has over 1.2 million signatures as of this writing.
It’s a shocking number to see a petition reach, and with a title like “Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2“, it’s surprising to see Warner Bros has yet to comment. Regardless, it looks like fans are going to continue pushing these petitions – and potentially even boycott the movie – unless actress Amber Heard is removed. As stated in the petition itself at Change.org:
“Amber Heard has been exposed as a domestic abuser by Johnny Depp,” it reads. “In his $50 million lawsuit, Johnny Depp describes many incidents of domestic abuse that he suffered at the hands of his (then) wife Amber Heard, including one incident where she punched him twice in the face and another where she shattered his finger with a vodka bottle, and his finger had to be surgically reattached. He will bear the scar from that for the rest of his life.”
While it’s unclear if Warner Bros will choose to take any action regardless of how many signatures the petition gets, over one million signatures is still an impressive number. Obviously only time can tell what will happen, but considering what already has happened with the ongoing lawsuits and issues between Depp and Heard – we should expect the unexpected.
As it is now, Amber Heard recently insisted she’ll be shooting Aquaman 2 when production starts at some point in 2021.
