It looks like Amazon is expanding their original content with a new series that should really appeal for fans of 90’s horror. It’s been revealed that Amazon has officially ordered a series based on the film I Know What You Did Last Summer. Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures TV will be collaborating to produce the series.
It was revealed by THR that the new I Know What You Did Last Summer series “will share a premise with the movie, in which a group of teenagers is stalked by a killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night, but put a modern spin on the material.”
As explained in an official statement by Sony Pictures TV Studios co-president Jason Clodfelter:
“We are thrilled to have I Know What You Did Last Summer with our incredible partners at Amazon Studios,” Clodfelter said. “Neal Moritz and Original Film’s development consistently fires on all cylinders and that is proven once again with Sara Goodman’s contemporary and pulsating character weaving suspense thriller.”
Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of television at Amazon Studios, followed up Clodfelter’s statement:
“The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie. Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan favorite film.”
Sara Goodman is going to be writing and executive producing the series. Other executive producers include Shay Hatten, Original Film’s Moritz and Pavun Shetty, Erik Feig and Atomic Monster’s James Wan, Rob Hackett and Michael Clear.
Hopefully this series manages to appeal to fans of the 1990’s movie. The original film was loosely based on a 1973 novel of the same name written by Lois Duncan. It’ll be interesting to see with several film adaptations, and the novel, what kind of route this series will take. But with Amazon, Sara Goodman, and James Wan all involved – it’ll hopefully be a worthy production.
