It shouldn’t have been a surprise that the Paranormal Activity film franchise would be making a comeback at some point. The found footage horror film series made its mark again and again at the box office, and all horror fans know what that means – there’ll always be another sequel. This is especially true when a film is considered the “final chapter”, such as Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension was in 2017. Now it looks like horror fans can expect the next Paranormal Activity film to hit theaters in 2022, according to its new release date.
The film, which will be the seventh entry in the popular Paranormal Activity franchise, previously had a release date for 2021. But now the release date has been pushed back until 2022, according to Bloody-Disgusting. One can assume it’s probably due to complications with the ongoing pandemic. Nevertheless, the film is still happening, and now this seventh Paranormal Activity movie will be hitting theaters on March 4, 2022.
This should give the teams at Blumhouse and Paramount Pictures plenty of time to develop and produce this next entry in the horror film franchise. There aren’t too many details available yet, and for all we know it might not even be a found footage movie – it could just end up being a reboot with a more traditional film structure. But we probably won’t know for sure until we get closer to 2022.
In the meantime, we do know that longtime franchise collaborator Christopher Landon will be involved with helping out the current team attached to the new movie. He previously directed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones and wrote Paranormal Activity 2, Paranormal Activity 3, and Paranormal Activity 4. So while he won’t be writing or directing this new installment, it’s no doubt helpful to have him helping out behind the scenes.
Aside from Landon, Blumhouse’s Jason Blum is obviously involved. It’ll be interesting to see who else will end up writing and directing the new installment. So stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any updates as we have them.
