One of the movie franchises that’s been on everyone’s mind lately is the Halloween franchise. While the film Halloween Kills was delayed, meaning we won’t get to see Michael Myers on the big screen again until next year, fans are still turning back to the originals. In fact, some fans have started spreading a fan theory about the very first Halloween film and one of its protagonists – Samuel Loomis.
The original Halloween is a movie that lends itself to plenty of different interpretations. Michael Myers and his unknown motivations are incredibly vague, so much that filmmakers and fans alike have taken different routes with understanding and explaining the character. One such explanation is the above mentioned fan theory, which suggests that Loomis actually turned Michael Myers into the unstoppable Halloween killer we know him as today.
As pointed out by ScreenRant, the theory starts when you take a look at the young Michael Myers after he murders his sister, Judith, in the opening of the original film. When the camera shows Michael Myers unmasked as a young boy, he gives off a cold stare – but it also resembles an expression of shock. When Loomis later on in the film described having met Michael as a kid, he insists Michael had “the Devil’s eyes.” As the theory goes, it suggests Loomis actually lied about seeing such an expression from Michael.
What does this mean, exactly? Well, it suggests that Loomis might’ve overreacted to Michael’s murder of his sister and simply put the thought into his head that he was evil. As a result, Michael grew up believing the lies that Loomis told him. And as a result, became the very thing Loomis was afraid of.
It’s an interesting theory, one that paints Michael Myers as something of a more sympathetic villain than he otherwise was in the original film. It also makes Dr. Loomis something of a Dr. Frankenstein type of figure.
While this is merely a fan theory, the concept isn’t any more bizarre than the plots for a majority of the sequels. So why not? Perhaps Loomis really did create Michael Myers as we know him today.
