It was previously reported that a new Children of the Corn reboot was being filmed in Australia, something that was rather surprising considering how many other productions have been postponed or canceled altogether due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, Children of the Corn is just one of those franchises that never seems to go away – and apparently global pandemics aren’t even enough to stop He Who Walks Behind the Rows. Now it’s been reported that the new Children of the Corn film has finished filming – and we have our first reveal of the film’s cast and the first image from the movie!
According to Variety, where the cast for the new Children of the Corn film was revealed, the movie’s production apparently took all the steps necessary for the safety of the production. As for the stars that were taken care of during filming, audiences can expect to see Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey, and Bruce Spence in the new movie.
As for plot details, information is sparse, but here’s what producer Lucas Foster had to say while speaking with Variety:
“Foster says the new film has ‘almost nothing to do with’ the 1984 movie, directed by Fritz Kiersch, and based on the same Stephen King short story. ‘We went back to the story and free-associated from there,’ he said.”
The report states that the film describes the events leading up to, and including, the massacre of the adults of a small town in Nebraska by their children, after the adults’ irresponsibility ruins the crop and the children’s future.
Hopefully we can learn more about this new take soon, and how exactly it will fit into or utilize the overall lore of the Children of the Corn franchise.
The new Children of the Corn reboot was written and directed by Kurt Wimmer. The film was produced by Lucas Foster, Doug Barry, and John Baldecchi. Kurt Wimmer, Mathieu Bonzon, Donald P. Borchers, Pascal Borno, John Fragomeni, Brian LaRoda, Keri Nakamoto, Andre Gaines and Sean Harner are executive producing. Pam Collis helped produce the film in Australia alongside the above mentioned Foster, Bonzon, and Harner.
