Black Widow was unsurprisingly delayed yesterday due to Coronavirus, and now MCU fans are wondering when exactly we will get to see the upcoming film. Could Disney follow Universal’s decision to release it directly to video on demand or Disney Plus, possibly? Pretty unlikely if you ask me, but hey – we’ve seen crazier things happen – in 2020 alone. So with the delay of the movie, could it impact the MCU timeline, such as shows like WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier? Eternals, even? Well, that question has officially been answered.
Obviously, this is a hot topic, and thankfully, according to a new report from Variety, the delay does nothing to affect the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. Per the report:
Pushing “Black Widow” affects nothing on the MCU timeline, said one individual close to Marvel Studios. It was not clear if the implication was that “Widow” will see the light of day before August, or that the film is inconsequential to Phase Four
With that being said, however, filming on the shows we mentioned above have had their productions shut down due to Coronavirus, so it should be expected that the release dates for those shows could be delayed, as pretty much everything else has been thus far.
It’ll be interesting to see what exactly Marvel Studios/Disney decide to do at this point, because there’s no telling how long these restrictions on movie theaters and various other things could last. With the recent report from Variety mentioning that there’s no clear implication that Black Widow will even see the light of day before August, it could end up being almost another year before we get to see the long-awaited solo film for the prominent Avengers member. Here’s hoping it doesn’t take that long, though, and we’ll be sure to update you if anything changes.
