The Coronavirus and its wide-spread impact is continuing to have an unforeseen impact on all industries, with the United States acting with great precaution to prevent its spread. Whether its the closure of all national sports (MLB, NBA, and NHL might be delayed till June), or the delays of several movies (Mulan, No Time to Die, and Fast 9 among them), the entertainment industry has been put on pause. It looks like this wide-spread effect could also impact Marvel’s latest summer blockbuster Black Widow.
The CDC, or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have announced that they are recommending no social gatherings of more than 50 people in an effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus for up to two months. With this being the case, it’s very likely that Marvel’s Black Widow will have to move to accommodate audiences at this time. It’s also likely that the remaining April slate will have to be pushed back, which still includes some notable projects like Trolls World Tour and Antebellum.
While the situation is obviously still developing, it’s surprising that theater companies haven’t stepped in yet to shut down theaters temporarily. Some states have taken out of the theater’s hands, with Massachusetts closing theaters/restaurants and limiting gatherings to 25 people or less, but not all are up to the task (New York and Los Angeles recently shut theaters down to).
With the Coronavirus getting more serious by the day, it’s apparent that all outside activities like this should be stopped for the time being. It’s most important that people stay home as much as they can, while also going above and beyond in their personal sanitation. If we self-isolate, we will be able to drastically prevent the curve of people who get the virus, which could save lives at the end of the day.
