The #MeTooMovement has led to countless personal stories from victims relaying the pain and abuse done by business moguls. Many of them have been against former famed producer Harvey Weinstein, who became known in the industry as a perennial Oscar favorite before shocking admissions came out about sexual assault and harassment. Weinstein finally is paying for those crimes, being sentenced to 23 years in prison earlier this week for rape and sexual crimes. With Weinstein in jail, many around the industry have had a cathartic reaction, including actress Kate Beckinsale.
In an Instagram post, the Underworld actress revealed that Harvey Weinstein acted viciously towards her for arguing about the premiere of Serendipity, which was scheduled in New York less than a month after 9/11. Check out the story posted by Kate Beckinsale.
The next morning Harvey called me and asked if I would like to bring my less than two year old daughter to his house for a playdate with his similar aged daughter I said ok. I turned up and he immediately called for his nanny to take the babies to another room to play. I went to go with them and he said “No, you wait here .” The minute the door closed he started screaming “you stupid fucking CUNT, you CUNT you ruined my premiere .” I had no idea what he was talking about and started to shake. He said,”If I am throwing a red carpet you get in a tight dress, you shake your ass you shake your tits you do not go down it looking like a fucking lesbian you stupid fucking cunt .”
Stories like this are prime examples of the disgusting behavior Weinstein acted with towards his workers. His gross, overly-sexualized views and actions have left a lasting scar on the industry, and I hope his imprisonment will help some people with their recovery process. We at ScreenGeek wish all abuse victims the best and hope workplace harassment like this will become nonexistent.
