Many fans feel that Vin Diesel’s acting career is synonymous with the wildly successful Fast and the Furious franchise, but the star actor has been able to pave several different career avenues. Pitch Black helped spawn the Riddick franchise, which saw the actor shine in an intriguing series of sci-fi genre films that looks to continue with a fourth entry. The success of xXx also spawned its own franchise of extreme-sports blockbusters, making Diesel a sturdy name in the action genre. Even with his ability to create his own franchises, no one could have expected that The Last Witch Hunter 2 would ever happen.
According to Diesel, that appears to be the case. The actor spoke to Collider ahead of the release of Bloodshot, sharing that The Last Witch Hunter 2 is currently being written at Lionsgate. This is a surprise to many, as the film received poor reviews and earned a mere 27 million at the domestic box office. Here are Diesel’s comments about the sequel:
“When a Last Witch Hunter comes out and it doesn’t destroy the box office you, under the old thinking, would go, ‘Well, maybe I should focus on something else.’ But nowadays what’s fascinating is that movies find you somehow.
Lionsgate is coming and saying, ‘We’re putting a writer on for the next one.’ That’s kinda cool! … And this is just recent, by the way. But it’s funny that you mentioned Last Witch Hunter because I’m in a meeting with Lionsgate and they’re actively creating the sequel to The Last Witch Hunter.”
Here’s a situation that shows the importance of international box office, as even though the film bombed in the state, it earned 120 million from international audiences. It will be interesting to see if this is just a rumor or if this project will actually happen, as its been nearly 5 years since the original was released.
