The Super Bowl has always been a wonderful time for zany commercials, and companies always tend to throw out the biggest and most impossibly wild scenarios possible. Occasionally there are fun commercials released that are chock full of pop culture references, and Walmart came out with a stellar Superbowl commercial that does just that. What’s most interesting, however, are the characters they’ve chosen to use in order to demonstrate their “out of this world convenience.”
As you can see down below, the main commercial is only 60 seconds long but it’s packed with a variety of special appearances from popular sci-fi genre characters. In fact, the appearances include characters from Star Wars, Men in Black, Mars Attacks, along with several other fun appearances. There’s even an appearance from Alex Winter reprising his role as Bill S. Preston Esquire just shy of the upcoming film Bill & Ted Face the Music. Interestingly they’ve given Alex Winter the chance to play both young and current versions of himself!
You can see the new Walmart commercial titled Famous Visitors down below, along with a special extended version of the normal 60 second long cut.
It really is exciting getting to see so many popular characters get their shot in the spotlight again, especially considering some of them like Frank from Men in Black have been absent from the big screen for quite some time. And aside from a healthy dose of nostalgia that makes Walmart’s “out of this world convenience” look like the way of the future, it is in its own way a nice look at the upcoming Bill & Ted Face the Music movie.
While the Walmart Superbowl commercial doesn’t really carry over anything official from the movie, it’s nice to see that Alex Winter still does a fantastic job in the role of Bill and it even gives us an idea of the potential digitally de-aged version of his character we may be getting to see in the upcoming flick.
Aside from that, it’s overall just good fun that proves why these Superbowl commercials are such a beloved part of the sports event.
