If you’re a fan of the original Pokémon movie, then you may be excited to know it’s getting a remake – one which replaces the traditional 2D animation with a sleek new CGI look. The movie was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original Pokémon movie, so it’ll be interesting to see such a dedicated recreation get released all these years later. Of course, this entry won’t be getting a theatrical release like its predecessor. Instead Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution will premiere in the US on Netflix.
As you can see down below, the new trailer does a great job at showing off the film’s new CGI animation. While it probably won’t be too different from the original film, it’s a nice throwback to one of the highlights from the original Pokémon franchise.
The English voice cast will include the current Pokémon voice actors, with Sarah Natochenny as Ash Ketchum, Bill Rogers as Brock, and Michele Knotz as Misty. Meanwhile the Japanese version will have its original voice cast returning. The film was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and Motonari Sakakibara from a screenplay written by Takeshi Shudo.
In the new film…
“When researchers discover and exploit a fossil of the Mythical Pokémon Mew, they unleash a creation that goes against the very laws of nature. The Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo was intended for use as a tool of destruction. But as Mewtwo becomes aware of its own dubious origin, it begins to resent its human creators and seeks revenge…”
Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution arrives on Netflix on Pokémon Day, February 27, 2020.
