In less than a month, the Merc with a Mouth will be arriving on our screens in Tim Miller’s Deadpool, to break the fourth wall and kick some ass, although it seems that he won’t be doing those things in Chinese cinemas.
THR has reported that R-rated film has been denied release in the country by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) due to the films ‘Violence, nudity and graphic language’. It would usually be a case of some clever editing, but in this case it appears that It wasn’t possible to excise the offending material without causing plot problems which given the MPAA’s rating of the film makes a lot of sense.
In recent years the Chinese market has become all the more important for studios, with some even going so far as to incorporate the country into its film in an attempt to boost interest and hence revenue. This banning will no doubt come as a big blow to Fox and could possibly reduce the overall box office significantly.
