Many fans of the Ghostbusters franchise have been waiting decades for a true third film in the series to get produced. While we did get a third movie in 2016 – it acted as something of a remake, one which ignored the storylines and characters fans were begging to see brought back. Now it looks like Sony learned their lesson after that film flopped, as they’ve been working on a proper Ghostbusters 3 – and it turns out the title has been confirmed as Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
While Sony did release the first official teaser for the film when the project was initially announced, showing off the original Ecto-1, the teaser was more for the announcement than anything that we know to be in the finished film. Now it looks like an actual trailer is on the way according to Trailer Track.
As they have revealed, the new title is indeed confirmed to be Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the trailer already has a rating. What this means is that we can expect the trailer to be released any day now, and that really is exciting news for fans that have waited decades for this particular film.
Although we don’t know much about Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it’s expected to be something of a “passing of the torch” type film and it has been confirmed that the original surviving cast will be returning to reprise their iconic roles. This includes Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver. The only actor that hasn’t been confirmed is Rick Moranis, but one can hope that he’ll be back as his character Louis Tully.
Hopefully now we won’t have to wait too long for the Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer to hit. Stay tuned with ScreenGeek for when it does.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be directed by Jason Reitman and hit theaters on July 8, 2020.
