After a long development period, Matt Reeves’ upcoming comic book film The Batman is finally being prepped for production. As casting continues, which currently includes actor Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, we’ve now received another announcement – John Turturro is playing mob boss Carmine Falcone.
The news was revealed on Twitter in a fun tweet posted by The Batman director Matt Reeves. He accompanied the announcement with a glimpse of John Turturro in his iconic role as Jesus from The Big Lebowski.
Of course, the character of Carmine Falcone has been utilized several times in different live action Batman adaptations from before. For example, he was played by Tom Wilkinson in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. The character was also portrayed by John Doman in the television series Gotham. But no doubt John Turturro will deliver a fresh and exciting interpretation of the character.
Hopefully we learn more about Matt Reeves’ The Batman as we get deeper into its production and eventual release date. After all, DC has had a hit with Joker and several of its other properties lately, so The Batman should surely be an entry worth looking forward to. Especially with Matt Reeves who has constantly delivered quality work behind the helm of the project.
Aside from Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman and John Turturro as mob boss Carmine Falcone, the cast also includes Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, with Paul Dano as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Jayme Lawson in a currently unknown role. We also have actor Jeffrey Wright taking on the role as Commissioner Jim Gordon.
