The debate has raged on for a decade about what order to watch the Star Wars saga in. Do you watch the movies in chronological order, from Episode I to Episode VI? Do you watch the movies in order of release, with the Original Trilogy and then the Prequel Trilogy? Or do you do a different order entirely?
Well, George Lucas has weighed in with his answer:
“Start with one. That’s the way to do it right: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. That’s the way they’re supposed to be done. Just because it took a long time to film it doesn’t mean you don’t do it in order.”
He wasn’t alone. Star Wars Episode VII’s Daisy Ridley agreed, saying:
“I would say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, because for a young person it’s easier to understand the chronology.”
However, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who created the musical Hamilton and wrote the Cantina music for Episode VII, says that the movies should be watched in order of release, saying, “Chronologically, when it was released. Absolutely. I had a pretty good time experiencing it that way. Linear is the best way to do it.”
John Boyega’s opinion takes a different approach:
“I would say whatever you want! Watch 3, 6, 2, 1 — do whatever you want to do so long as you experience it a very unique way and enjoy it.”
