Disney is getting ready to launch their streaming service, Disney Plus. It will feature titles all across the Disney multiverse. The most anticipated of the service will be its original programming. The return of Disney Channel favorites, Lizzy McGuire and High School Musical, have been announced. But if you’re reading this article, I’m sure those aren’t the originals you’re most excited about. You may be wanting to watch them. But since you’re on a site called “ScreenGeek,” then I’m sure it’s the Marvel and Star Wars shows you’re anticipating the most.
Some lucky individuals in the world have already experienced a beta version of Disney Plus. Those were quick to point out the separation between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel Television. While their original Marvel shows, like Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, will be a part of the MCU, the ones that existed before the service will not be. So take that sigh of relief. I was confused at first, too, when I heard this.

Marvel Television was created to co-exist with the movies. Agents of SHIELD continued the further adventures of a resurrected Phil Coulson. Agent Carter was Peggy’s work with pre-SHIELD after Captain America was frozen. But as time marched on, and more shows were produced, the two houses started drifting further apart. In fact, there was no movie that acknowledged any of the shows, until Avengers: Endgame, when James D’Arcy reprised his Jarvis character from Agent Carter. The Netflix shows are over, but the shows on Hulu and Freeform at least mentioned their characters.
Now, Agents of SHIELD has even split off into their own universe. And to throw more mud in the eye, Luke Cage‘s Mahershala Ali has been cast in an upcoming Blade movie.
I think it’s great that Phase 4 will intertwine with TV shows and movies. But it’s a shame that Disney would cast out their other children like red-headed ones. Hashtag SMH.
Disney Plus will be available for everyone to download on November 12th, 2019. Star Wars’ first show for the service, The Mandalorian, will be available on the same day. For Marvel, Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be available 2020. WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye, and the animated What If….? in 2021. And Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight some time after that. Stay tuned to Screen Geek for news on all those.
