It sounds like we may be seeing another cross network superhero crossover soon, not long after we saw Constantine join Green Arrow a couple of weeks back. The Flash and Supergirl could be next!
According to a report from Bleeding Cool, we may be seeing a crossover between CW’s The Flash and the CBS show Supergirl next May. The reason behind this? Apparently CBS are concerned about the ratings drop the Melissa Benoist show suffered after its impressive premiere. They recently picked up the show for another nine episodes on top of it’s initial thirteen, something which shows they aren’t willing to give up on it yet.
Per the report:
Bleeding Cool has been told by a reliable source to expect Supergirl to meet the Flash and the STAR Labs crew from her fellow show by May’s sweeps week, if CBS orders the last episodes of Supergirl.
They later updated their report with another report saying:
Yesterday, Bleeding Cool ran two stories relating to DC Comics TV shows. One that Supergirl is planning to run a crossover with The Flash, a cross-network crossover between CBS and CW (CBS owns half of CW, the other is handily owned by Warner Bros) – that is if it gets its “Back 9” episodes commissioned. Indeed, we’ve heard this morning that it may be a requirement to do a crossover if it gets those extra episodes.
And it may all be part of an arc that takes on the storyline from the Supergirl comics about New Krypton – that comic saw 100,000 Kryptonians come to Earth after Brainiac freed them from the Bottle City of Kandor, with a new planet being built for them. It also mirrors a plotline currently running in Dark Knight III: The Master Race. But how much of that could be done on a TV budget means we may get a very different way of telling that story.
This would go against what was initially reported by the network, who explained that the show would be set in it’s own universe. It begs the question as to how nobody in the CW shows has never acknowledged Superman existing – possibly another parallel earth?
