It looks like Alien: Covenant is the first of three origin stories as director Ridley Scott said that he’s been inspired by Star Wars – according to a new interview with the director from The Hollywood Reporter:
“Prometheus 1 was borne out of my frustration that on Alien 1 in 1979 – I only did one as I don’t normally do sequels. I was amazed that in the 3 that followed that no-one asked the question “why the Alien, who made it and why?” Very basic questions. So I came up with the notion of Prometheus 1, which starts to indicate who might have made it and where it came from,” Scott said.
He also added the following:
“So in other words, why was this space jockey there and why did he have an Alien inside him? And those questions will be answered.”
Variety also is reporting that Ridley Scott is going to be shooting the upcoming 2017 movie Alien: Covenant in the Australian state of New South Wales.
The government of New South Wales has worked out a deal with producer Ridley Scott and Twentieth Century Fox, and the next Alien movie will be filmed on-location there. Because Alien: Covenant is supposed to be the first in a trilogy of new movies in the Alien franchise, this deal will apply to the next two movies as well.
It will be Ridley Scott’s first movie filmed in Australia. He said the following:
“It has been a long-time goal for me to make a movie down under, and I am extremely pleased that it’s finally happening.”
Alien: Convenant is expected to release in 2017. While few details are known about it or its sequels, they will be prequels to the Alien franchise that Ridley Scott kickstarted in 1979, and will continue from where the first prequel movie, 2012’s Prometheus, left off.
