Ever since Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox back in March, Marvel fans have been wondering when the X-Men will be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, according to a theory by Reddit user ak2sup, this could be done through the upcoming WandaVision series on Disney+, which is set to start filming this fall.
At Disney’s Investor Day conference last month, the company gave attendees the first glimpse of what Disney+ will look like. Disney also provided information about movies and series that will be on the streaming service, including WandaVision. A promotional photo was shown at the conference, but it has not been released to the public. However, thanks to Elizabeth Olsen, we know a little about the image. During an interview with Variety, Olsen had this to say:
“There’s quite a few other comic books we’re pulling from. It’s gonna be Wanda and Vision. I think at the Disney+ launch chat they showed a photo of us in the 50s, and I think that’s a good teaser. It’s gonna be really fun.”
The 1950s backdrop for the series is the basis of Reddit user ak2sup’s theory. The theory suggests that Wanda Maximoff and Vision will travel back in time in order to live a peaceful life together. However, something will go wrong that interrupts their peaceful life, which causes Wanda to lose control of her powers and unleash her reality-warping abilities, as seen in the House of M comic storyline. When this happens, the result will be an awakening of mutants across the world, creating a new MCU timeline where the X-Men exist in present day.
This is certainly a plausible theory, especially considering that Elizabeth Olsen has mentioned bringing the House of M storyline to the MCU. During an interview in 2018, Olsen was asked about doing a standalone Scarlet Witch film. She responded, “I would love to do [a standalone film], and I would love it to be House of M.”
