Tom Holland, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man, is known for his habit of accidentally dropping spoilers. In fact, it’s become a running joke, with Holland ‘leaking’ the title Spider-Man: Far From Home last year. Now, Robert Downey Jr. has gotten involved – this time about Avengers: Endgame.
In a tweet, Downey Jr. referenced the Spidey star’s apparent inability to keep secrets using a picture from the Spider-Man cartoon. So determined were Marvel to keep Endgame spoilers from leaking that Holland wasn’t given the entire script.

Endgame, the highly anticipated final Avengers movie and sequel to last year’s Avengers: Infinity War, follows the surviving heroes as they attempt to defeat Thanos and bring back those killed in the Decimation. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo, as well as members of the cast, have asked fans to refrain from spoiling plot details – so it makes sense that Marvel would do everything they could to stop their own actors from dropping spoilers accidentally. Mark Ruffalo, another MCU actor with a reputation for accidental spoilers, was even given a fake script!
Though this might seem overcautious, once spoilers hit the Internet, they have a tendency of popping up everywhere. When dealing with a film like Endgame – which closes the MCU’s Infinity Saga – it’s no surprise that Marvel want to keep as much concealed as possible.
Downey Jr. poking fun at his co-star like this also reminds us that, remarkably, no major spoilers leaked before the film’s release.
Avengers: Endgame is in theaters now.
