With the Disney/Fox merger complete, many a Marvel fan is overly excited for the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties to revert back to where they belong. It has been stated, though, that we will have to wait quite a while before we see a Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Marvel’s Merry Mutants. However, there are still two installments of the FoX-Men movies on the docket. But, is this version of the X-Men going out with a bang, or a whimper? According to box office projections, seems like the Fox version will limp off into the sunset like a wounded dog with X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
The film seems dead before it’s even been released.
Between a director who wrote one of the worst comic book movies ever, rumors of major issues on set and reshoots that were anything but normal, and trailers that have got fans no where near interested, the last X-Men movie (besides the offshoot The New Mutants, which has its own set of issues) doesn’t seem to be headed for a successful and enduring ending to the storied franchise.
Box Office Pro projects a terrible theater run for the film, and even offers some pros and cons as to why. One of the main reasons is that the fans are already looking ahead to the MCU version of the characters, which is sure to be far more comic accurate than the Fox version.
This projection just adds to the heap of disappointment that surrounds this movie, long before it is even released. Many fans just want this film to come out already, and get it over with. These projections show it having the worst opening weekend in the franchise’s history, and there aren’t too many fans that would disagree with that assessment.
