The Disney Plus Streaming Service is taking the world by storm, and it’s still 7 months away from its release. Disney is proving that they are pulling no punches here, with over 8,000 hours of movies and shows, from their extensive library of classics as well as brand new material. One of the many franchises coming to the streaming service is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With a slew of new shows announced, as well it being the future home for all streaming releases of the MCU films, starting with Captain Marvel.
Now, Marvel Studios Head, Kevin Feige, explains the MCU’s future with the streaming service.
At Disney’s Investors Day, Kevin Feige revealed that the future of the MCU is not only on the big screen, but will actually tie in with the streaming service.
“A post-Endgame MCU will be extremely different and extremely focused on Disney+ tying into the future.”
As Feige discussed the new shows coming up, he had this to say:
“These shows will be on the same level of quality that you’ve come to expect from Marvel Studios and we’re taking advantage of the freedom offered by Disney+, exploring the MCU and our favorite characters over multiple episodes. These will be both new and continuing stories and one of the things we’re most excited about is that these will be major storylines set in the MCU with ramifications that will be felt both in the Disney+ shows we’re producing and our features on the big screen.”
One of those shows coming up is not so much a tie in show, but rather a kind of “dream show” of what might have been. What If, an animated series based on the comic book series of the same name, takes your favorite super heroes and villains and throws them into unique and unorthodox situations that you wouldn’t normally see.
What if Loki had Mjolnir instead of Thor? What if Peggy Carter was the Super Soldier and Steve Rogers used a Howard Stark made suit to help fight the Nazis? These stories and more will answer those questions.
Unlike the shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Netflix series, which only barely connected with these shows to the MCU, these new streaming series will directly correlate, which is something fans will love.
It looks like we’ll have a lot in store for us after Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
