As we make our way closer and closer to the release of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3 Finale, Avengers: Endgame, fans are anxiously awaiting what secrets might unfold from from arguably the most ambitious and most anticipated crossover events of all time. This has lead to speculations and fan theories that have ranged from the well thought out and researched to the down right insane, even for a comic book movie. One theory that has been around for a bit, and may hold some validity, is that Thanos will not be the only villain in this movie. But who exactly will be that new villain?
This latest theory points to a possible villain that has been around since Captain America: The First Avenger (and no, I’m not talking about Red Skull).
Over on Reddit, the haven of fan theories, one user speculates that there is more to the Infinity Stones than meets the eye. Pointing to several moments in the films, including The Collector’s speech about the Stones, as well as Banner’s assessment of Vision’s evolution. This theory feels that the Stones, themselves, are the true villain of the film. The Stones were separated upon their creation from the Big Bang, but it may not have been coincidental.
Speculating the Avengers: Endgame’s real threat and how Endgame could end. (Spoilers. Obviously.) from r/FanTheories
The theory postulates that the Stones may hold their own souls or consciences, and that bringing them together creates too volatile of a connection, ultimately causing even more damage than Thanos’ snap. It has been suggested before that at least some of the Stones may have their own conscience, but it’s a kind of scary to think that they all have their own souls, and thus their own personalities and agendas.
We won’t know for sure until Avengers: Endgame hits theaters this April, but it’s certainly a fun hypothetical to ponder until it does.
