J.J. Abrams posted a tweet to let fans know shooting for principal photography was finished on Star Wars: Episode IX. John Boyega posted on Instagram some final thoughts, as this also means his time on set has come to an end.
It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography on Episode IX. There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast. I’m forever indebted to you all. pic.twitter.com/138AprtFuZ

John Boyega’s time on set with Star Wars began with The Force Awakens in 2015, being brought to the cast by J.J. Abrams. They’ve both finished this journey together, and Boyega’s message over social media couldn’t be more heartfelt, saying:
“That’s a wrap on Star Wars episode 9 and the end to a chapter of my life that I couldn’t be more thankful for. What a process! It really has been a joy to be in these movies surrounded by amazing people. I personally want to thank @jjabramsofficial for giving me a chance to make my dreams come true
To our supporters…. See you SOON! May the force be with you.”
Boyega chose the same picture to accompany that message as J.J. Abrams. It is of Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac hugging on a desert set. The set looks like it could be that of Wadi Rum, Jordan, where it seems Boyega visited October of last year.
Lucasfilm hasn’t been so forthcoming with the details of the impending new Star Wars release, however, Boyega has been more generous, sharing what he can. Just last month, he shared a picture of his hands with a spot of blood on them. His caption suggested this happened on set, as he said the scene he was working on was “visually crazy.”
A rumor from StarWarsNewsNet suggests that a trailer for the upcoming film will be attached to Avengers: Endgame:
As days fall off the calendar without a title or footage from Star Wars: Episode IX, fans are growing more hungry for information by the day. I have some information in regards to the first trailer for Episode IX, that may not be a surprise to many fans, but at this point is the plan for its debut. Rumors of an Episode IX trailer arrival have been swirling since last year but now we’ve heard the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX is currently scheduled to debut in April and will also be attached to Avengers: Endgame in theaters.
Note that neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have announced this, but with that said, this information comes from a very credible source who has told me things that turned out to be on the mark in the past so take this however you would like.
Boyega interviewed with Empire, confirming a rumor that has been around for a while that there will be a time jump of about a year in the film, then later said he didn’t remember saying anything like that.
With filming now complete, hopefully that will inspire Abrams or Lucasfilm to finally release the name of the highly anticipated sequel. Regardless of when they give out the name, we still have to wait until December 20th to see it on the big screen.
