When you wipe out half of all living things in the universe in an instant, it can be hard to keep track of everyone. Speaking of just humans, there are over 7 billion people on the planet. That means that over 3.5 billion people turned to dust. Now, this obviously makes it pretty damn difficult to verify everyone who is missing. Some may be off world. Some may be trapped in another realm. Some may have gone into hiding, too distraught over the loss of loved ones, or simply planning their revenge in secret. Well, looking at the trailer for the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame, a previously “confirmed” survivor has moved to the “missing” status, and it changes things for many fans.
Shuri, the younger sister to King T’Calla, and one of the smartest minds in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was previously said to have survived the “Decimation” from Thanos’ snap. However, during the trailer, we see a distraught Banner viewing all the heroes that are “missing” after the events of Infinity War. Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, is lost in the Quantum Realm (known to no one), Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, was last seen heading into space, and then there’s a third face. Shuri is listed as “Missing”.

This is very interesting, as many fans took the earlier “confirmation” of her survival as the opportunity to have her take the Black Panther mantle in the absence of her brother.
But what is most interesting about this is the “missing” part. You would think that they would most likely find a pile of dust in the lab, which should have then been presumed to be her. But, with them listing her as “missing”, maybe they couldn’t do that? And, if she did survive, why hasn’t she contacted anyone? What is going on here? Is she laying in wait, prepared to take up the Black Panther mantle as well as cultivating a plan to stop Thanos?
I guess we won’t know until Avengers: Endgame is released in April of 2019…
