With all the current turmoil over whether we’re getting an Avengers 4 trailer this week or not, and the complete lack of marketing and knowledge of what actually happens in the film (which, personally, I think is brilliant, albeit irritating, on Marvel’s part), has many fans scrambling to figure out just what might happen in the still untitled film. Fan theories are running rampant across the internet, with people scouring through 20+ films looking for clues to how the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3 will come to an end.
One fan in particular found the ravings of a mad man might hold more value than previously considered, and it’s also another valid theory to come out of Thor: The Dark World, the MCU’s most maligned film.
Over on Reddit, a new and extensive theory has come up surrounding Erik Selvig and his ravings at the mental hospital after he ran around Stone Henge naked in Thor: The Dark World. If everyone remembers, Selvig had the prototypical chalk board of ideas drawn out as he tried, in vain, to convey his message to the other “guests” at the hospital (including a cameo from the late, great Stan Lee).

When fans first saw this, they noticed an easter egg or two, like the mention of the “616 Universe”, which is the main universe in the comics, but dismissed the rest as the nonsensical rantings of a man troubled by his time possessed by the Mind Stone (from Loki’s sceptor). However, now that fans are even more aware of just how connected the films of the MCU are and all the threads that run through them, it stands to reason to give this chalkboard a closer look, and it may just be paying off.
While this theory is quite a read, it is really well done and points to a lot of details. The board pointed to events that would eventually happen in future films, like the events of Ragnarok and even a roundabout mention of StormBreaker, Thor’s new weapon he had made in Infinity War. So, make sure you’ve got several minutes to dive into it, but it’s totally worth it.
This chalkboard may very well hold the key to who to finally defeat Thanos. Then again, it could just be the ramblings of a mad man…
We’ll find out when Avengers 4 hits theaters everywhere next year.
