There seems to be a void in everyone’s hearts with the passing of the legendary Stan Lee. However, he is truly immortalized with all the heroes he gave this world, and by the wonderful cameos in Marvel’s film properties. But, now that he is gone, these beloved cameos are coming to an end. This makes the next few Marvel Cinematic Universe films a little bittersweet. You see, Lee has already filmed his cameos up to the still untitled Avengers 4, and, with principal filming already wrapped for Spider-Man: Far From Home, he most likely will be making his final cameo appearance fittingly with the Wall Crawler.
Some have speculated that, due to his recent health issues before his death, that Lee couldn’t make the trip to Europe to shoot a cameo. However, if you watch the Behind The Scenes portion of Ant-Man and The Wasp home release, there’s a brilliant and hilarious section showcasing Stan’s multiple takes for his cameo. While I highly recommend everyone watch this for the laughs, play close attention to how it’s being shot: on a green screen. So, in essence, Lee could have filmed his Far From Home cameo here in that States, then be digitally inserted later.
Also, speaking with Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios Head, Kevin Feige, stated that they are looking for an appropriate way to honor him correctly. Feige stated what all of us were thinking:
“He was a 95-year old man, I’m realistic, but he’s also Stan Lee. He’s a mythological legend who’s had more energy than me ever since the first day I met him. Part of me thought he would live forever.”
We thought he’d live forever too.
Needless to say, these upcoming cameos will be bittersweet, but nothing will sting more then that first MCU film that hits the theaters without that signature Stan Lee cameo.
