Fans have been clamoring for decades to get a good superhero movie. For every Batman ‘89 we’d get, we’d get ten Ghost Rider or X3: Last Stand films. But, arguably, no superhero franchise has had a more maligned run at the cinema than the Fantastic Four. In the three films released in theaters, none of them were well received at all. In fact, the 2017 release is considered by many to be one of the worst films ever made, and was rifled with behind the scenes drama. But, while the first film hit theaters in 2005, not everyone is aware that this wasn’t the first cinematic attempt at the First Family of Marvel.
More than 10 years prior, Roger Corman produced a film that would never actually officially see the light of day… until now.
In 1983, the Neue Constantin Production company bought the rights to make a FF film, but nothing ever came of it until the deadline on the rights reverting back crept up nearly ten years later. So, in 1994, they enlisted Roger Corman to produce, they developed a low budget FF movie, but never released it. The film seemed ready to go, including having trailers play before some of Corman’s other films, like 1993’s Carnosaur.
But, the company simply shelved the project, and it was lost to time. However, thanks to the wonders of the internet and YouTube, we now have a copy online for everyone to dare to watch. So, if you have 90 minutes of your life that you’re willing to forego and never get back, go ahead and check out the film. Be aware, though, it’s as bad as you think it is… but then again, you probably saw the awful 2015 Fantastic Four film.
